讲座摘要:

Many algorithms used for image processing have been inspired from other disciplines and have proven to be of high efficiency. The theory of quantum mechanics contains many powerful aspects such asthe probabilistic nature of the quantum particle, the state space, and the superposition principal. In this talk, we provide a framework for processing images that is based on quantum mechanics. This framework enables the incorporation of the quantum theory along with its aspects in the field of image processing. The basic idea is to associate each pixel with a quantum system, where each pixel starts with an initial state and then evolves to any possible state. The force governing the evolutionin this case is computed from the local image features and the corresponding Hamiltonian is designedusing a proposed supervised learning method. Thus, the image features are responsible for determining the final state of the pixel. The system is allowed to evolve and a measurement step is performed to obtain the final state. By assigning each state to a certain class, we can use this approach to classify the image pixels or to segment images. This framework is used to develop an algorithm to segment general images. Moreover, it is also applied on a medical problem which is segmenting the vessel tree in retinal images.
